RECORDING SESSION WITH LYSKAMM STRING QUARTET
Verlingieri’s Four Songs for a Mad Composer, written for Maxwell Davies’ 81st birthday
MONDOVI’ (ITALY), APRIL 2018. In the amazing location of the Oratorio di Santa Croce, hosted in the ancient headquarters of the Academia Montis Regalis Foundation, in the historical city of Mondovì (Nortwest Italy), an audio recording of Gianluca Verlingieri’s Four Songs for a Mad Composer took place. The composition is a suite of small pieces for string quartet written in 2015 as a gift for the eighty-first birthday of the british composer Peter Maxwell Davies, the Master of Queen’s Music, who passed away the following year. Defined by Maxwell Davies himself “very clever and witty”, the pieces composed by Verlingieri were interpreted by the Quartetto Lyskamm, one of the best emerging string quartets in the European scene, fresh winner of the Claudio Abbado Award of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust, as well as various other awards and international recognition.
